Seductive wines, delicious produce, spectacular scenery - the King Valley was a wonderful muse for a story I photographed for Go Places winter magazine alongside my word-smithing, partner-in-crime aka husband - Peter Barrett.

There is such a burgeoning art-scene in regional Castlemaine and Toyota Go Places Magazine commissioned me to photograph a story to accompany a piece written by my husband Peter Barrett. These are just a few of my favourite images from the piece.
Melbourne artist - Katie Stackhouse (top) and artworks from Embodied Materialities, 2018 and Perspicuity, 2018. Photographs by Emma Byrnes.
I have had the pleasure of documenting two of Katie Stackhouses’ exhibitions these past months.
The Melbourne artist’s sculptural works refer to the emerging experiential technologies of virtual reality, and the enquiry as to how these technologies may affect human relationships. Her use of limestone to carve sculptures of what are essentially VR goggles allows her to marry the serenity of the natural environment of her home-base in Warrandyte with the inner-cityscape in her work “Embodied Materialities” at Assembly Point. Following on from that at Rubicon Ari was “Perspicuity” - a work that continued the conversation - combining elements of the past with the present.
I was very happy to hear that Katie was able to use these photographs to communicate her creative work for successful grant applications.

A few months ago, my lifestyle travel writer partner-in-crime and I spent some lovely time in beautiful Mount Macedon, just 50 minutes’ drive west of Melbourne. The story was published in RACV’s RoyalAuto’s May issue.
It is hard to believe that this spectacular beauty is accessible in under one hour from my inner-city Melbourne home. Worth remembering on days when I am feeling overwhelmed by the rat race!

Sometimes I get to work on fun stories with my writerly partner-in-crime/husband, Peter Barrett.
As you have probably guessed this brief was all about scooters and was for RACV’s RoyalAuto magazine.

Before I became a mother of three kids driving a sensible station wagon with air bags I dreamt of whizzing around on a vespa in the spirit of Roman Holiday. So it was fun to hang with passionate scooter-lovers from the Melbourne Vespa Club and admire their Italian Piaggio Vespas and meet Frank from Vespa House, who nearly 70 years after his father opened it, is still working in the very same workshop (which to be honest is essentially a fully functioning, working museum.)

These images were captured during a visit to Orpheus Island and featured in several different stories - one for Jetstar magazine; another for Traveller and a feature story on our travel blog - Lifestyle Traveller.
